The shot timer keeps your last setting: If you switch the shot timer on again, it starts to count down from the level of your last usage, when the time is up, it beeps.
The thermometer gives you immediate feedback on the brewing group temperature. Since the thermometer measures directly above the espresso puck the water temperature, the real temperature within the espresso pack is around 7F below the value shown.
